Durante la Cerimona dello Smistamento, il Cappello Parlante recita ogni anno una nuova canzone, che ha lo scopo di narrare ai nuovi studenti la storia di Hogwarts, dei suoi fondatori e le caratteristiche delle 4 Case in cui a brevissimo verranno smistati.
